Chicken Lasagna

Lasagna is my all time favorite dish. It is yummy and so comforting. Although it is a tedious process to cook it, with a long grocery list; but it is so worth it.

Cheesy white sauce, and saucy chicken layered between lasagna sheets. Yum, makes me want to have it again. πŸ˜€

This recipe was requested by a lovely follower Naina. If you have any requests, please comment and I will share the recipe with you. πŸ™‚ For now, here is how you make Chicken Lasagna πŸ™‚

Serves – 3-4

Total cooking time – 1.5 hours

Ingredients –

-For the chicken:

  • Chicken boneless cut into small cubes – 400 grams
  • Oil – 2tbsp
  • Onion – 1 medium sized, chopped
  • Garlic paste – 1 tbsp
  • Black pepper powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Red chili crushed – 1 tsp
  • Salt – as per taste
  • Tomato paste – 4 tbsp
  • Oregano – 1/2 tsp
  • Thyme – 1/2 tsp
  • Water – 1/2 cup

-For white sauce:

  • Butter – 2 tbsp
  • Flour – 4 tbsp
  • Milk – 1 cup
  • Water – 1/2 cup
  • Cheese – 3/4 cup
  • Black pepper – 1/2 tsp

-For assemblling:

  • Lasagna strips – 9 boiled as per the instructions on packet.
  • Capsicum – half sliced
  • Tomato – half, deseeded and sliced
  • Olives – as per your taste
  • Cheese, either cheddar or mozzaralla – 1/2 cup
  • Dried herbs – 1/2 tsp

Method:

Chicken:

In a wok, heat oil and fry onions till they turn translucent. Add the garlic paste and let it cook for half a minute. Add the chicken next, and cook on high flame till it changes colour.

Add the black pepper powder, crushed red chilli, and salt and let it cook till it is almost done. Let it cook for a few minutes and add the tomato paste, and water as needed. The chickens gravy should not be too thick, nor too runny in consistency. Once it is cooked, switch off the flame. Finally add oregano, and thyme.

Let it cool down before you use it for layering the lasagna.

 White sauce:

On low heat, melt butter in pan. Once melted, add flour and mix it with butter. Let it cook on slow flame for a minute. Make sure you don’t burn the flour. Add the milk, and whisk it to avoid and lumps. Keep on whisking it till it starts to thicken. Add water and cook till it reaches a medium thick consistency. Add black pepper and turn off the heat. Mix in thw cheddar cheese till it is well combined with the white sauce.

White sauce is ready. Please make sure the white sauce has a pourable consitency.

Assembling:

Grease a 9″ by 9″ oven safe dish with oil. Place three boiled lasagna strips on the bottom. Spread half of the chicken gravy on it, evenly. Next, spread half of the cheese sauce over the chicken.

Top it with three lasagna strips and repeat the layering process.

Top it again with three lasagna strips, top it with shredded cheese, capsicum, tomatoes and olives.

Bake the lasagna in a preheated oven at 180 degrees C for 15 minutes. Broil it at the same temperature for 5 minutes, to melt the cheese on top.

Let it cool for 5-10 minutes before you serve it.

      For vegeterian you can use sliced eggplants, and make the tomatoe gravy as it is without the chicken πŸ™‚ please do share a picture of your version of lasagna with me πŸ™‚
